Bored and brilliant college student Yagami Light is just casually going through a normal school day when he discovers a Death Note, a mystical notebook owned by the Shinigami, that kills an individual when that person's name is written in the book. After conducting a successful test to determine the notebook's written claims, Light sets about killing every criminal he hears of using the notebook, determined to rid the world of criminals. However, there are those elements of society that do not agree with his brand of personal justice, and will stop at nothing to discover and arrest the one who is killing all the criminals.
